Average Rental Costs at Lowe’s
The amount you pay to rent a pressure washer at Lowe’s varies depending on the model, rental period, and location. Generally, hourly rentals range from $40 to $80 per day, while weekly rates typically fall between $120 and $200. Some larger or commercial-grade units may cost more, especially if they come with additional features like heated water systems or higher PSI ratings.
For short-term projects lasting only a few hours, many Lowe’s locations offer flexible hourly rentals starting around $20 to $40 for the first hour, with incremental charges for each additional hour. Daily rentals usually provide better value for weekend projects, allowing you to work at your own pace without worrying about strict return deadlines.
It’s important to note that prices can differ significantly between stores due to regional demand, local competition, and inventory availability. Before visiting your nearest Lowe’s, check their website or call ahead to confirm current rental rates and availability.
Factors That Influence Rental Price
Several key factors determine how much you’ll pay to rent a pressure washer at Lowe’s:
- PSI Rating: Higher PSI means more cleaning power, which often translates to higher rental costs.
- GPM Flow Rate: Units with higher gallons-per-minute flow rates tend to be pricier since they clean faster.
- Rental Duration: Longer rental periods typically reduce the per-hour rate but increase total cost.
- Seasonal Demand: Spring and summer months see increased demand, potentially driving up prices.
- Location: Urban areas with higher living costs may charge more than rural locations.
- Additional Equipment: Renting accessories like nozzles, wands, or surface cleaners adds extra fees.
- Store Policies: Each Lowe’s location sets its own rental terms, so rates aren’t standardized nationwide.
Understanding these variables helps you budget accurately and choose the right equipment for your project needs.
Rental Duration Options
Lowe’s offers flexible rental durations to accommodate various project timelines:
Hourly Rentals
Ideal for small tasks like cleaning patio furniture or removing light mildew. Hourly rates start around $20 and increase incrementally based on usage time.
Daily Rentals
Perfect for medium-sized projects like driveway cleaning or fence restoration. Daily rates typically range from $40 to $80, offering better value for extended use.
Weekly Rentals
Best suited for large-scale projects requiring multiple days of work. Weekly rates usually fall between $120 and $200, providing significant savings over daily rentals.
Extended Period Rentals
For major renovation projects lasting several weeks, some locations offer discounted extended rental programs. Contact your local Lowe’s directly to inquire about long-term rental agreements.
Choosing the appropriate rental duration ensures you get the most value while avoiding unnecessary charges.
Deposit and Insurance Requirements
Most Lowe’s locations require a security deposit when renting equipment. Deposits typically range from $50 to $200 depending on the item’s value and rental duration. The deposit is fully refundable upon safe return of the equipment in good condition.
Some stores also offer optional damage protection insurance for an additional fee. This coverage protects against accidental damage or loss, giving renters peace of mind during use. While not mandatory, considering insurance is wise for expensive or delicate equipment like high-end pressure washers.
Always review the rental agreement carefully before signing to understand all terms, including liability clauses and late return penalties.
Types of Pressure Washers Available
Lowe’s carries various pressure washer models to suit different cleaning needs:
Electric Pressure Washers
Lightweight and quiet, electric models are great for light-duty tasks like cleaning outdoor furniture or small decks. They typically deliver 1,000 to 2,000 PSI and require access to a standard electrical outlet.
Gas-Powered Pressure Washers
More powerful and portable, gas-powered units excel at heavy-duty jobs like removing deep stains from concrete or stripping paint. These models produce 2,000 to 4,000+ PSI and don’t rely on electrical outlets.
Commercial-Grade Units
Designed for professional use, these high-performance machines offer maximum cleaning power and durability. They’re ideal for large properties or frequent commercial applications.
Selecting the right type depends on your specific cleaning requirements and workspace constraints.

Tips and Best Practices
Maximize your pressure washer rental experience with these helpful suggestions:
Plan Ahead
Book your rental well in advance during peak seasons to ensure availability. Weekends and holidays see particularly high demand.
Read Instructions Thoroughly
Take time to understand the operator’s manual and safety guidelines provided by Lowe’s staff.
Inspect Equipment Condition
Document any existing damage before taking possession to avoid being charged for pre-existing issues.
Prepare Your Work Area
Clear the space you’ll be cleaning and gather necessary supplies like detergent, protective gear, and tarps beforehand.
Monitor Rental Time Closely
Keep track of your rental period to prevent costly late fees. Set reminders if needed.
Store Equipment Properly
If renting overnight, store the pressure washer in a secure, weather-protected area away from children and pets.
Ask Questions
Don’t hesitate to ask Lowe’s associates for advice on selecting the right nozzle, detergent, or technique for your specific task.
Implementing these strategies improves efficiency and safety throughout your project.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Even experienced DIYers make errors when renting pressure washers. Here are common pitfalls and how to avoid them:
Underestimating Power Needs
Using insufficient PSI for tough jobs leads to frustration and extended rental time. Choose a unit with adequate power for your intended application.
Ignoring Safety Precautions
Pressure washers can cause serious injury if mishandled. Always wear eye protection, gloves, and sturdy footwear.
Damaging Property
Holding the nozzle too close to surfaces can etch wood, strip paint unintentionally, or damage siding. Maintain proper distance and test techniques on scrap material first.
Overlooking Accessory Costs
Additional items like specialized nozzles, extension wands, or surface cleaners incur extra charges. Factor these into your budget.
Returning Dirty Equipment
Failing to clean the unit properly before return may result in cleaning fees deducted from your deposit.
Making Late Returns
Late returns trigger penalty fees that can quickly exceed the original rental cost. Plan your schedule accordingly.
Avoiding these mistakes saves money and prevents headaches during your rental period.
When to Buy vs. Rent
Deciding whether to buy or rent depends largely on frequency of use:
Rent If:
- You have occasional one-time projects
- Your storage space is limited
- You prefer trying different models before purchasing
- Budget constraints prevent immediate purchase
Buy If:
- You regularly tackle large cleaning projects
- You own property requiring frequent maintenance
- You want consistent performance without rental hassles
- You plan to use it seasonally year after year
Consider your long-term needs and usage patterns to make the financially sound choice.
